Street Style: Kristen Nunnally + Britt Patterson

The Campagna Center is near and dear to many in Alexandria for all it provides to the youth and families of the city. The Junior Friends are the heart of The Campagna Center and work tirelessly to support the Center’s many programs.  New this year is the Bright Futures Benefit, a critical fundraising event chaired by Brittany Patterson and Kristen Nunnally, which will be held next Friday, June 2 on the patio of United Way Worldwide, overlooking the Potomac River. The funds raised will help equip the children and families with the tools they need to achieve a bright future. Click here provided to learn more about this fantastic event!

Kristen is wearing Alice and Trixie; Britt is wearing a romper by Stylestalker. Available at Kiskadee.

This is the inaugural Bright Futures event. Why now?

Kristen: After several years of hosting two spring events, we decided to narrow our focus and energy to a single event while at the same time expanding the spotlight to The Campagna Center, their programs and benefit to the Alexandria Community.

What inspired you to get involved?

Britt: Being a born-and-raised Alexandrian, I have known so many fabulous women who were involved in The Campagna Center. When I officially became a “working adult,” the next thing I wanted to do was get involved and start giving back to the community that gave me so much, so I signed up to be a Junior Friend. The Campagna Center serves more than 2,000 Alexandria children and families each day though its various programs. Funds stay directly in the community that I love so much.  It was a perfect fit.

Kristen: Having lived in Alexandria for a little more than six years and bringing volunteer experience from across the Commonwealth, I wanted to get involved with my community.  In this area there are so many opportunities to serve far and wide; I was drawn to The Campagna Center for its focus on the Alexandria community.  Everything The Campagna Center does stays local and benefits local families.  What greater gift than helping neighbors right here in our community?

The event features a farm-to-table dinner. What’s your go-to healthy meal to cook (or order!)?

Kristen: Gosh, I’m going to have to say that since working on Bright Futures with Britt, I am pretty much hooked on Avocado Toast from South Block. That stuff has sustained me through many a planning meeting!  I’ve tried to replicate it at home, with some success even.

Bright Futures guests will enjoy live music. What concerts are you planning to see this summer season? What is your favorite venue?

Britt: Last Friday my husband and I went with two other Junior Friends to see my absolute FAVORITE, Eric Church.  My secret indulgence is country music so we have a summer filled with it; Tim McGraw & Faith Hill and Zac Brown Band are also on the agenda.  As far as favorite venue, I can tell you what I do not like and that’s Jiffy Lube Live-post concert. Getting out of that parking lot is an absolute nightmare.

Speaking of summer, what’s your hot and humid weather fitness plan?

Kristen: I am not much of a fitness buff so what I’d like to do is float at the pool with a margarita. However, my desire to do that has gotten me into a cycling program at Ascend Cycle, preferably near the fan. Hoping this will allow more guilt-free margaritas in my future!

How about beauty – is there a summer must-have product or look you can’t live without?

Britt: Sunscreen. I used to be a sun worshipper but now I’m working on trying to age a little more gracefully. I also don’t leave the house without mascara.

Kristen: Tinted eyebrows. All. Summer. Long.

For this photo shoot, Britt rocked a big summer trends, the romper: are you in?

Kristen: I so wish I had what it takes to look good in a romper. I mean, how much easier does it get? Top and bottom, all in one: yes, please!  I have tried and failed, although maybe I just haven’t found the right one. I will keep trying, though!

After such a big event, you’ll want some R&R. Where is your go-to for a glass of wine (or cocktail!) in Alexandria?

Britt: I’m a rosé-all-day kind of gal!  Front Porch’s frozé is very good — highly recommend trying that. And I’m also very much looking forward to trying Chef Armstrong’s new restaurant, Hummingbird, located in Hotel Indigo, which expected to open in the next few weeks!

Any vacation plans this summer?

Kristen: Right now, with this event a week away, I’d settle for a pool noodle and a margarita.
