Happy 17th Birthday, Shoe Hive!

Well, I cannot just let the 17-year birthday of The Shoe Hive go by and not celebrate. No, I can’t do all the fun things I normally do, like throw a huge party with signature honey cocktails and sweet treats. But, of course, we have figured out a few special things. It is funny, when people ask me what I miss most during quarantine, it is that: having fun events at the store.

The week before everything shutdown we had our spring Veronica Beard trunk show, which is our biggest event of the year. I think it was the first time Sheila had worked the event, and while we were having a drink after she looked at me and said, “We weren’t selling clothes Elizabeth, we were selling joy.” It is true; it was not just about the clothes. It was about all these amazing women that were there having fun and spending time together. It was just a joyful night. You could hear the laughter and conversations from down the block.

Well, we won’t have a packed house or fancy drinks in the courtyard, but we will have a storewide discount at both The Shoe Hive and The Hive to celebrate this year’s anniversary. Which truthfully is a reason to celebrate as we keep grinding through a pandemic that has shuttered so many stores like ours all over America. We are surviving, and it’s all because of you, and we want to say thanks.

Starting Thursday, October 29 – Sunday, November 1, everything is 17 percent off. Even sale items. If you can’t make it into the store, you can shop from home – just use the code Happy17.

That isn’t all, though. I had to think of something fun; I still need to bring the joy. I have wanted to do this for years, so for two days (Friday and Saturday), we will have our own carnival claw machine in the courtyard. That is right, spend $100 at either store and get a turn at the claw machine. Every turn wins a prize and there are over 100 prizes inside. There is even a $500 gift card that one lucky shopper will win!

So, stop in – I am even going to be there in person some – which I haven’t been much this month due to some health unpleasantness in our house! I am so excited to be back and can’t wait to celebrate. It is time for some JOY.

I spent the first part of my career as a copy-writer who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive. At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.

Heard the buzz? The Shoe Hive & The Hive are a pair of luxury boutiques in Old Town Alexandria. Featuring both big name designers like Rag & Bone and Stuart Weitzman and smaller brands like AGL and L'Agence, our unique selection and impeccable service are what set us apart.
