recently opened restaurant report: hank’s pasta bar

The wait is over for one of Old Town’s most anticipated restaurants.

Hello again, readers! Thank you so much for the positive feedback on our first restaurant report! The feedback was so great that we’re thrilled to announce recently opened restaurant report “feedback” posts will be a regular occurrence. Again, let me say I am not a foodie, but I am an avid Alexandrian and as stated last time, the opening of a new bar, restaurant, or store makes my week.

Last Saturday Geoff and I, accompanied with my parents, walked over to the new Hank’s Pasta Bar, which has taken the space of an Italian restaurant we dined at once, years ago, never to return. Hank’s Pasta Bar is a rustic Italian neighborhood eatery, and the dream child of Hank’s Oyster Bar owner Jamie Leeds, whose other three restaurants are all seafood focused.

Upon walking into the space you immediately know Jamie has accomplished her goal of making the 100-seat restaurant warm and inviting. The décor is unique but not overdone. The menu features 18 handmade pastas and risottos best served family style, where diners can pick three, four, or five pastas for the table.

We had unbelievable service and the manager was kind enough to squeeze a few more guests at our table when we ran into people we knew. An absolute must-try is Jamie’s Favorite Linguini with White Clam Sauce and the Meatballs, which are made with four types of meat! For dessert we split the fig tart and Hank’s famous key lime pie.

My only complaint would be that in keeping with the real Italian eatery feel they served the wine in what I would call an American juice glass. Wine glasses are available behind the bar so be sure to ask for one.

Brunch services starts this Saturday. Be sure to check it out!
