WTW to Class: My Product Test for lululemon athletica

It has been written. For all workout and athleisure purposes, I LOVE lululemon athletica (see my post Anatomy of a Fit Life: My Style).  I am blessed to be a lululemon ambassador for the Old Town store.  As an instructor and especially as an ambassador, we get to test products for the luxe athleisure line and give feedback to the store and designers. Fun, huh?  One of the most frequently asked questions by new students at our studio is “What the heck do I wear to class?”  The answer? These pants or something similar: they are super versatile and stylish.

Pure Practice Pants

I received these beauties last Sunday and lululemon Old Town asked me to wear them all week for my workouts. They’re my normal size, but seem a bit tighter than usual.  That’s ok because I love everything “sucked” in and up if you know what I mean.

On the first day, I wore them for an outdoor run.  They have a pocket in the back that is big enough to hold your phone which is nice because I like to talk business through my ear buds while on my runs.  The tight fit felt super supportive on my 42-year-old skin.  Again, I don’t like anything bouncing.  The fabric is 4-way stretch which means it moves with you but maintains support throughout the range of the movement so nothing restricted my stride.

The second workouts were Pilates and teaching my Mommy & Me Pilates class.  They held up nicely during Pilates.  I appreciate the fold over back pocket with no zipper.  If there are zippers on the back, they will dig into my back while on the mat.  The high waist and hugged-in feeling are perfect for Pilates Roll Ups.  As you roll your spine up one vertebra at a time, these pants don’t ride down one vertebra at a time!

SoulCycle, the party-on-a-bike spinning phenomenon, was my third workout.  I paired it with this cool new lululemon crop top. The pants were awesome; I had to pull them up a few times but that was my own insecurity, I wanted all my skin covered by the high waist band since I sported just the crop top and no shirt—that class is too sweaty for me to wear a shirt!  I like the full-length pant for this class since once you’re done, you are so drenched you wouldn’t be wetter if you jumped in a pool.  The fabric soaks up the sweat and keeps it away from your skin and from dripping into your shoes.  I know, it’s gross.  But these pants soak it all up and wick it away!

I ended my week with Hot Pilates, by that time I was telling everyone about the Pure Practice Pant.  After learning that I’d worn these pants every day, many wondered if I’d washed them.  Yes, yes I did.  They launder easily but I put them on gentle and line-dried them.  One day I needed a quick turnaround so I tossed them in the dryer on delicate.  They came out looking like new.

Go get these pants!  The color may not be around for long, so visit lululemon athletica Old Town! Also, here is another perfect Pilates outfit for spring in this Flat Belly exercise wrap up.  Practice these ab moves to find your deep abdominals.

Megan Brown, physical therapist, Pilates instructor, mother and co-founder of Mind the Mat Pilates & Yoga in Alexandria, VA, likes to goof around. Yet her commitment to her students and her skill set in the field is no joke. After graduating from University of Virginia with a degree in Sports Medicine, Megan went on to receive her Masters in Physical Therapy and eventually her Doctorate in the profession. Although Pilates was never part of the plan, the method changed the way she treated patients, positively re-directed her career path and enhanced her own active lifestyle. Customized Pilates instruction is her specialty–she designs classes based on clients needs: athletes, new moms, rehabilitation or just for fun (why be serious all the time?). Pilates + Yoga is the best of both worlds, hence the creation of Mind the Mat studios providing classes for all—in every walk of life.

Mind the Mat Pilates & Yoga was founded in 2008 by Megan Brown, Doctor of Physical Therapy and Polestar Certified Practitioner of Pilates for Rehabilitation and Sara VanderGoot, Nationally Certified Massage Therapist and Registered Yoga Teacher (e-RYT 200, RYT 500). In their private practices as physical therapist and massage therapist respectively Megan and Sara observed that many of their clients were coming in with similar needs: relief for neck and shoulder tension and low back pain as well as a desire for more flexibility in hips and legs, stability in joints, and core strength.

Together Megan and Sara carefully crafted a curriculum of Pilates and yoga classes to address needs for clients who are pregnant, postpartum, have injuries or limitations, who are new to Pilates and yoga, and for those who are advanced students and are looking for an extra challenge.
