what to wear: classics revisited, part two

We’re going to chat a little bit about Brigitte. She had the best bedhead and the sexiest smoky eye, long before the terms “sexy” and “smoky eye” became nearly synonymous.

You won’t need very many products for this look; the simplicity is part of its incredible appeal.

Step One: Prep the face with a light primer. Smashbox Primer Water is perfect for this, because it feels like absolutely nothing–great for summer in the DMV!

Step Two: Use a soft, smudgy black eye pencil to line upper and lower lids, including the waterline. Dip an eye smudge brush into a deep taupe or charcoal toned shadow, and blur the line you just drew with the black liner. This will create the “I just slept in my makeup and woke up looking faaaaaabulous” look. (Even though we all know you should never sleep in your makeup.)

Step Three: Clean up the pieces of shadow and liner that may have fallen onto your cheeks. Lightly conceal your undereye, and any other places you feel you need a little extra coverage.

Step Four: Fill in your eyebrows with powder or pencil, and follow with clear brow gel.

Step Five: Using a big, fluffy brush, lightly dust the subtlest wash of peach powder blush all over your cheeks. If you feel you need it, adding a small bit of contouring powder just under your cheekbones would certainly not go amiss in this look.

Step Six: MASCARA. Yes, all-caps-style mascara. Get crazy. Three coats of a volumizing black should do the trick! This look is all about the eyes–don’t sell them short!

Step Seven: Line your lips with a medium-peach or warm pink lip liner. Cover with a moisturizing lipstick in the same color.

This look is best accompanied by wild panache and a sassily raised eyebrow. Enjoy!
