what to wear: classics revisited, part four

Twiggy is fabulous, was fabulous, will always be fabulous.

This look is another that uses minimal foundation, but clearly is not a minimal look. I recommend toning this look [way] down for more upscale parties, but you can amp it up even more for any occasion that requires a costume, like a fun Halloween look that manages to make you look like you tried but are not absolutely insane. Shall we dive in?

Twiggy

Step One: Eye base will be necessary for this look, to hold onto the dramatized crease. Use something colorless, if you’d like, such as the Smashbox 24-Hour Eye Primer or Vincent Longo Water Canvas Base. Top this with a white matte eye shadow. Using a finger, press a small amount of shimmery white shadow onto the lower lid.

Step Two: In the crease, using a defining brush, like Jouer #3 or Smashbox #15, to add intense shading in a deep grey tone. Take this exaggerated crease from past the outer corner (following the same line your natural crease gives) all the way into the crease of the inner corner.

Step Three: Black liquid eyeliner. Go from slightly past your inner corner to just past the edge of your outer corner–don’t flare up into a wing, though, just follow your eyelid’s natural shape. Add a little thickness to the line as you get close to the outer corner, so your eyeliner is visible when your eyes are open. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner works perfectly for this. Curl your lashes, and apply two or three coats of volumizing mascara. The mascara doesn’t have to be perfect, because false lashes will be added after the mascara dries.

Step Four: Take a break from eyes and add a shimmery highlight to your cheekbones and down the middle of your nose. Jouer’s new Luminizing Liquid Highlighter is lovely for this–not too sparkly, but definitely will draw attention where you want it. Smooth a little BB cream or tinted moisturizer over the spots you feel need some coverage, and lightly conceal your undereye.

Step Five: Apply a little bit of neutral blush, or even bronzer, high on the cheekbone. Blend well, but make sure you’ve still got color. Pat a touch of Smith’s Rosebud Salve on your lips for moisture and shine–no lipstick needed!

Step Six: False lashes, here we come! Apply the most intense strip lashes you can handle on your face. This look is all about the lashes! When the glue has dried (wait about 5 minutes after applying.), go over the line with your liquid liner again. Now, holding your mascara wand vertically, sweep back and forth along your lower lashes, from corner to corner. Do this a few times, then gently separate and make sure they’re angled toward the outer corners. The lower lashes are meant to be a little clumped together–classic Twiggy! Lightly draw a line of Smashbox Always Sharp in Bare on your waterline.

If you’re feeling really zesty, you can even add a corner lash strip (shorter and more tapered than a full strip) to the lower lash line. I only recommend this on the lowers if you’re going to a Halloween party, though, and definitely not for a toned-down incarnation of the look.

Complete this look with doe-eyed innocence and a fantastic color-blocked dress.
