what to wear: a bold summer lip

I am 100% about bold lips. I went through a brief period of having a signature lip color, but quickly decided I like options simply too much to commit to one color. If you are sitting there reading this and thinking, “But I could never wear a bold lip!” you are wrong. I will show you how to incorporate a bright, fun lip into your summer face look.

Bold summer lip

Step One: Moisturize with a mattifying lotion. A popular one for us is Rilastil Aqua Normalizing Fluid–it’s made for dehydrated skin that’s prone to oiliness, so it’s perfect for a Virginia summer. Apply the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation on top, to lightly perfect your skin, and get it ready to be a great canvas for your bold lip.

Step Two: Use a finger to dab a little bit of cream eye shadow in a white or champagne color over your lower lid. Add a little bit of the Jouer Luminizing Liquid Highlighter to the inner corners of your eyes, and just on top of your cheekbones. You don’t need to bother with blush this time, but if you feel naked without it, feel free to put on the softest wash of a color that coordinates with your chosen lip color. Apply two coats of volumizing mascara.

Step Three: Fill in your brows with a soft pencil, then top with a tinted brow gel, like the Blinc Eyebrow Mousse.

Step Four: Rock that lip, girl. In this photo, the model’s lip looks almost stamped on, like it was applied with a finger. That lends to the lip a very laissez-faire effect, which may or may not be your style. If you prefer a perfectly lined and saturated look, go right ahead. Some similar colors to the one seen here are Lipstick Queen Cupid’s Bow Pencil in Metamorphoses, Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Melondrama, and Kevyn Aucoin The Matte Lipstick in Timeless.

Have fun, and remember that 90% (95%? 100%?!) of pulling off a different look is believing you look amazing. You can do it!
