Welcoming a New Premium Denim Brand: DL 1961

Let’s face it. Shopping for jeans is like shopping for a bathing suit. It is exhausting and defeating.

Enter DL 1961. I bought my first pair two years ago. I was a size 28/29 at the time and I was so excited because the size that fit me best was a 27. I’m not afraid of buying sizes up or down from what I think I am because it’s about what looks and feels best, not about my relationship with a number. But of course, buying smaller always feels pretty good!

It was a high-waisted skinny jean. It had just enough stretch I could boogie around in, but not so much where I had to pull them up all day or where they bagged out in the knees. They look GOOD. Here’s why:

So when we were looking to add another premium denim line to the shop and immediately I knew DL1961 would be a new customer favorite. Our first shipment came in a couple of weeks ago and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. We started with these three styles.

We know shopping for jeans is like committing to a relationship. It will go a lot more smoothly if you think about the tips below before diving in.

1. It’s not all one size fits all.

Be prepared to try multiple sizes in different styles…even within the same brand. Denim producers are adding more spandex to certain cuts and less in others. This may result in you going up or down a size.

2. They may look better from a distance.

Sometimes pieces have great hanger appeal, but they don’t quite translate when you put them on. Pay special attention to placement of dye variation and embellishments. Occasionally, these fun details are placed right on your hips and can make you appear wide and full. Not necessarily a trait most of us are striving for.

3. They may change with time.

Sure, they look and feel amazing in the fitting room for the first 15 minutes…then you get them home. Do they slide down throughout the day? Do they sag at the knees after a few hours’ wear? How do they perform overtime and after a few washes? You learn from trial and error. This, while disappointing at times, will help you learn and find your favorite brand. Use sales associates at boutiques to help answer your questions and calm your fears.

4. Keep them new and exciting as long as you can.

Maybe you find it gross, but I prefer to not wash my jeans every time I wear them. I typically give them three or four wears and spot clean as necessary. Of course, there are those die hard denim folks who spray them with Febreeze and put them in the freezer. (Yes, this is really a thing…)

We encourage you to come and try and see what cut works best for you. We have placed our spring orders and would be happy to tack on an extra pair for you!
