what to wear: the new neutral

Gray is a big neutral for fall. It feels so fresh and light compared to black and is even more versatile as it will stand out against your other blacks without reading too stark against lighter colors. It’s also a great trend to start embracing now: gray is a year-round color that will look fabulous with your summer whites and pastels. Look for pieces that will transition from summer to fall like this light weight blouse, gray jeans or a gray handbag or pair of shoes.

I love gray as a neutral but sometimes have a challenge wearing it close to my face. Any suggestions on how to pull off a gray sweater or jacket with a fair complexion?

  2. Susan, yes, sometimes gray can be one of those colors that washes you out if you have a more fair complexion. Try going for more saturated hues, a deeper darker gray, rather than a pale gray. Or, add a dose of color around your face that is more flattering for you in a scarf or necklace, a collared shirt underneath your sweater or a blouse layered beneath an open cardigan or jacket. And, add some more color to your face with cheek and lip color to perk up your complexion. If this still isn’t working for you, wear your gray away from your face: gray skirt, pants, shoes, or handbag. Have fun experimenting!
