They are the two staple colors in all of our wardrobes. Back in the day, navy was known as the black of the summer. You wore your blacks through the winter and transitioned into summer with the nautical navy. Well forget that piece of history, because that rule is just that, HISTORY!
We’ve seen the beautiful, dark navy velvets and the universe has spoken. Navy is just as important as black, and yes, you can wear them together. It’s actually pretty simple if you follow this advice…
Like with most two-color outfits, you want to incorporate the colors throughout. You can add a third accent color, but let’s just focus on wearing black and navy as your base outfit.
Recently, I was chatting with Chris from The Shoe Hive and he mentioned that he had heard most people get dressed from top to bottom, which describes me most of the time (unless I just so happened to buy the coolest pair of Freda Salvador boots and I absolutely want to wear them, then I’ll get dressed from bottom to top!).
Apply this mentality: what piece is most difficult for you to fit into the outfit? Is it a pair of navy shoes or a pair of navy pants? Is it a black shirt that has navy details? Start with your problem piece and build off of it. It’s like a sandwich, keep layering in components of each color until it feels properly incorporated.
