I’ve been married for 28 years. Long ago, I realized that my husband cannot read my mind. At first that seemed like a big bummer. Hollywood and all its rom coms and epic love stories had let me down. But, in reality, it’s quite all right. In many ways, so much better. Nowadays, I make a list and am often pleasantly surprised at how well he pulls off the gift giving. I met Lauren and Rachel, the enormously talented ladies behind Sweet Root Village, six years ago. A mutual friend of ours had started a group of women entrepreneurs who gathered to share and grouse about owning a business. It’s been a pleasure to watch these ladies grow their business into a premier floral design studio. And they did it on their own terms. They are completely unapologetic about mixing motherhood with their business. It is so refreshing. If you take a look at their Instagram feed, you’ll see beautiful floral creations being composed by women with babies strapped to them and with small children playing gleefully around the studio. As a mom who owns her own business, I’m truly inspired by them. They are genuine trailblazers.
Lauren and Rachel are also amazing collaborators. When I thought about with whom I’d like to collaborate this Valentine’s Day, I immediately thought of them. Normally, they would be busy creating gorgeous floral arrangements for all sorts of events, but because of COVID, I figured they might have a little more time on their hands. So, I took a chance and reached out to propose a one-stop Valentine’s Day gift idea. Their collaborative nature was on full display when they enthusiastically agreed to partner.
