travel-ready: 4 long weekend looks

TSALT has been slowly but surely gaining traction as a destination for destination dressing. So many women have discovered the boutique by chance and are very drawn to Tamara’s pieces for their upcoming events. Mother of the groom, weddings they are attending, and black tie events…even a custom graduation dress for a Madeira graduate!

We have been scrambling to bring in all sorts of new merchandise while developing a collection for fall ’16 and creating some signature pieces for our fast-growing clientele. Thankfully, we added a new sales associate to our team, Amy Young. Interesting tidbit…Amy, Tamara, and I used to all be neighbors on S. Fairfax Street before I moved last year.

Amy and her husband Pete are some of the nicest people you’ll meet here in Old Town.  Pete is a car collector, Triumphs, to be specific, and yes, I hopped in my favorite one day for a photo op! They are both local and moved outside the beltway for a bit while raising their two boys, Alex and Evan. As empty nesters, they moved back to Alexandria and renovated an exquisite home.  Both Tamara’s and Amy’s homes will be part of the Alexandria Garden Week tour this year!

Amy agreed to model some styles for us during our week of spectacular weather. Tamara and I have been brainstorming on ways to help capture sales on the TSALT website. Showing TSALT styles on real women can help online customers understand how the clothing would look on them when they have similar body types. In order to help us prove our point, Amy shared her measurements!

Height 5’8”
Shoulders 17.5
Bust 38”
Waist 31”
Hips 41”
She usually wears a size 8 or 10.

From the answers to her questions below, you can see she is a multi-faceted natural beauty.

Your style in three words: Comfortable, classic, casual cool
Your latest fashion splurge? Tall green Hunter boots with black inserts purchased at The Shoe Hive!
What’s on your play list currently? The Partridge Family (Really!! Recently I went to a David Cassidy concert at the Birchmere!)
What are you longing to have in your closet? Neely boots by Stuart Weitzman
What beauty item can you not live without? Rose Salve lip balm
Your style icon? It’s a tie: Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.
The song you never get tired of? Fleetwood Mac “Go Your Own Way”
Fashion item you cannot live without? A stunning scarf!
As I put these outfits together, I imagined that Amy was in town for a wedding. The following looks cover a travel outfit, a little sightseeing, brunch or the rehearsal dinner, and the wedding. The cowl neck maxi could work for black tie or a casual beach wedding!

Look 1: Travel Outfit

Amy is wearing the Cowl Neck Top in Seafoam and Beija Flor Ankle Length Denim.

Look 2: Sightseeing around Old Town

On the go in the Hepburn Black Pant, Lightweight Black Jacket, and Frances Leather Backpack from Stowe.

Look 3: Brunch or Rehearsal Dinner

Amy loved how this marble print Custom Silk Dress from the Tamara Saltonstall Collection felt on and thought it was a style that successfully disguised “problem areas”

Look 4: The Wedding

Amy wears the medium in this Cowl Neck Maxi Dress in Black. The Knit Shrug makes a fabulous alternative to the predictable pashmina, and is available in three color ways. The Over-sized Pearls are from Hot Girls Pearls — put them in the freezer and they will keep you cool during a summer wedding (or a hot flash!). And the pièce de résistance: the Abalone Shell Clutch.

Stop in to TSALT sometime soon and see what we’ve been up to. I’ll be there from 11 to 5 this Saturday (after I go to Bellacara’s Anniversary Party!). Amy will be there Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of next week from 11 – 5. Tamara is heading out of town but will be posting her travel selections on the TSALT Instagram feed — follow her to keep up with great travel tips on TSALT Style!

  • The latest from Alicia
Alicia was born and raised in Alexandria, and married a local boy. She is happily married and the mother of two amazing children and one adorable and terribly smart border terrier named Dixie. Alicia has always known she was a creative. She collected editions of Vogue from junior high on and has always loved clothing and design. She studied interior design at VCU and parlayed that degree into commercial interior design, the web design, and ultimately found herself managing a local boutique and serving as a stylist to many Alexandrian women. She now has a successful full-time styling business, The Tulle Box, and makes it her business to make her clients feel great about themselves and the way they look.
