‘Tis the Season of Pumpkin Everything and I Tried All of It! Here Are My Top 5

I am that girl when it comes to pumpkin season. I will try anything and everything pumpkin-flavored or pumpkin spice-enhanced, even though I will sometimes do so with skepticism and disbelief about the crazy things people think of when fall rolls around. I am fancy grocery stores’ ideal consumer, giddily grabbing every. single. thing. in the pumpkin section come mid-September. I am an advertiser’s easy target and a true pumpkin fiend. Because of this, I’ve done some pretty extensive research with regard to pumpkin consumables, and I have selected my top 5 to share with you here.

1. Pumpkin Spice Rice Krispies Treats from Emma’s

If you have never been to Emma’s Espresso and Wine Bar in Del Ray, I suggest heading over there very soon to try this festive treat. What better way to savor fall than in a cozy coffeehouse with a pumpkin goodie and a warm mug of cinnamon or caramel apple cider? Emma’s also has a pumpkin spice latte; I have yet to try it, but I bet it’s tops if you’re Team PSL.

2.Pumpkin Spice Shortbread Cookies from Great Harvest Bread Company

The samples at this place are dangerous. They were offering samples of their pumpkin spice shortbread the last time I stopped by, so I was cruelly forced to try it and then take every last package on display home with me. I put some in the freezer and will take them out as an accompaniment to my pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. Double the pumpkin, double the fun!

3. Pumpkin Maple and Pumpkin Chocolate Cupcakes from Lavender Moon

Lavender Moon Cupcakery is far and away my favorite cupcake place in Old Town. They have my preferred cupcake-to-icing ratio (about 3:1), and they always offer a variety of creative and consistently tasty flavors. They invariably have their staples, like flourless chocolate or vanilla with lemon curd, but my favorites are their seasonal flavors. The pumpkin maple, heavy on the pumpkin with a subtle maple background, is a must-try, and the layered pumpkin and chocolate is perfect for the fall-inspired chocolate lover.

4. Pumpkin Pie Pop Tart from the Saturday Farmers Market

These pop tarts are not to be missed. Located year-round at the large rectangular table behind the fountain at Market Square, this stand offers delicious bread, muffins, decorative cookies (last week, they had cookies with Trump and Clinton’s faces on them), miscellaneous pastries, and more…but I always go back for the pop tarts. They have many great flavors to choose from, but if you have a hankering for something that tastes just like fall, go for the pumpkin pie pop tart. The decadent crust and sweet icing offer a scrumptious texture that complements the pumpkin pie filling perfectly. While you’re there, stop by the coffee stand on the other side of the fountain for some pumpkin coffee to warm you up and wake you up on a crisp autumn morning.

5. Sugar Shack Pumpkin Pie Glaze Donuts

Sugar Shack’s presence in Alexandria is a gift to us all, especially when you consider their pumpkin pie glaze donuts and seasonal lattes. Sometimes, you really just need a donut (I believe it was Confucius who propounded the “donut worry, be happy” philosophy), and at these times and all others, the sweetness and festivity of the Pumpkin Pie Glaze donut really hits the spot. Sugar Shack offers other seasonal donuts, too, like pumpkin cheerios and candy corn.
