timeless trends

The other day, my hair stylist asked me, which trends are your clients most into for fall? I always feel a bit ambivalent discussing trends because I encourage my clients to let their personal styles guide their choices rather than following trends. But, when I answered her question, I realized that most of the “trends” my clients have been most exited about are actually timeless styles.

Gray as the new neutral, for one, is a current trend that my clients are loving. It pairs well with the blacks they already have in their closet but feels fresh. And gray is never considered out of style so there’s no reason you can’t continue to wear these pieces for years to come.

Leather is another that my clients are loving. I don’t think I’ve been on a single shopping session so far this season where we haven’t left with at least some leather. Most of the time, we’ve been getting pieces with leather accents – a dress with leather trim or a pair of leggings with a leather panel – which will feel more timeless and less trendy than a dress or leggings completely made of leather.

Knitwear

Knitwear is popular this fall and my clients are loving it. They are taking the opportunity to stock up and refresh their sweater wardrobes. It’s not always easy to find stylish, unique sweaters so this is the season to buy enough to get you through the next dry season. And, of course, a sweater is never out of style so you’ll be able to wear these until you wear them out.

And, finally, animal print accessories. Animal print is a classic but it goes through phases of being more or less popular. The most timeless options we’ve been buying this season are leopard print shoes and scarves. Keeping the print to a subtle accessory rather than going head to toe will feel more classic in years to come.

So, if you want to feel on trend this season but don’t want to end up with a bunch of items that will feel dated in a year or two, try these timeless trends.
