sweater trends 2016

Yes, it’s full-out sweater weather now no matter which side of the Atlantic you happen to be, and the styles for 2016 knitwear are plentiful. Cozy, relaxed, slouchy, elongated silhouettes, retro, school girl, business woman – so many style options for women of all ages. And this season, the colorways of choice seem to be earthy shades, with winter whites always an easy choice when it comes to soft cashmere and merino wool, followed by crisp white cotton for the much-anticipated spring. Which sweater is going to be your perfect cold-weather must-have?

Woodenships_CocoBlanca

I love the easy, relaxed throw-over-your-jeans look with our cotton sweaters from Woodenships because they transition so well from one season to the next, but I’ve selected a few designers below to help show off the wide selection of styles available for today’s sweater fashionista.

It’s business appropriate with the new collection of sweaters from Hugo Boss as shown above: a white cable knit sweater worn over a white shirt and teamed with a pair of black trousers, or a plain light grey crew neck over a checkered skirt. This new collection of knitwear from Boss is all about contemporary silhouettes that translate effortlessly from one season to the next.

Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, whose style is described as “deconstructed chic with minimal opulence,” shows off a more sporty style with this oversized white cable knit top featuring colorful stripes around the elbows and wrists. To me, it almost feels like this designer duo (Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi) are going for a rather British sense of tongue-in-cheek chic.

And then there’s the line from LA designer Rosetta Getty who first entered the fashion world as a 14-year-old model working between Paris and Milan. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt to be married to the great grandson of oil tycoon, J. Paul Getty to help launch a new clothing line. Her design philosophy is to have two sides, from the inside to the out or front to back, without trims or closures to offer freedom to the consumer on interpreting how to wear each piece.

We would love to know your style — please comment below! It would be fun to post a follow-up with the most popular readers’ picks.
