Flower Power, Chelsea Style

Yes, Coco Blanca is all about the soothing color palette of a coconut by the sea, with fresh clean whites, relaxing neutrals, rich browns, elegant blacks, and splashes of turquoise. But who can resist Mother Nature’s color palette when it comes to fresh flowers…with a white background, their fabulous mix of colors simply pop! And there’s no better showcase than the Royal Horticultural Society’s annual Chelsea Flower Show in London!

The other week, I had just moved into a new flat on Sloane Street, and as I walked along my new neighborhood in search of a coffee and pastry, I couldn’t believe the incredible floral designs displayed in the shop windows! There were larger-than-life-size giraffes, lions, and other exotic jungle animals…all made out of fresh flowers. Soon I learned about the annual competition Chelsea in Bloom (in association with the RHS Chelsea Flower Show) in which retailers, restaurants, and hotels in Chelsea compete for best floral display, and this year’s theme happened to be “Safari Floral.”

My favorite display was at my friend’s jewelry store Kiki McDonough: a purple and orange giraffe. Her display, named “The Gemstone Safari,” was designed by florist Phillip Corps. I also loved the creativity of Hackett, my go-to men’s store where I shop for my son. A leopard made out of tropical plants appeared to be coming through their store window, while another leopard rested up high on branches hanging overhead. My favorite florist, Wildabout Flowers, along with Harlequin Design, were the creative team behind that winner.

My experience was highlighted when I attended the Charity Gala Preview evening and saw so many fabulous garden designs. And later that evening, my daughter texted me to say my friends from Alexandria, Jackie Locke and Catherine Thompson, were also here for the Chelsea Flower Show. They were among eleven members of the Hunting Creek Garden Club who traveled to London for the show. Flower power!

No doubt, flowers are in full bloom back home in Alexandria, so be sure to stop by Coco Blanca where you can find a beautiful selection of vases to display your own creative floral design.
