what is a stylist? (and a great introductory offer)

styl·ist  noun \ˈstī-list\  : a person whose job is to make something (such as a person’s hair) look attractive

Many people hear the word “stylist” and think of Rachel Zoe putting celebrities in gowns for red carpet events (wouldn’t that be nice!), or a personal shopper who brings you expensive clothing from tiny boutiques and high end retail stores. Stylists are so many things to their clients, and their work entails a variety of professions…archeologist, therapist, triage, doctor, architect, curator, editor…but ultimately styling is another form of asset management with a creative twist. Stylists are problem solvers with our client’s best interests in mind.

We all have clothes, and some of us are better at managing them than others. Imagine seeing the clothing in your closet a whole new way: through the eyes and mind of a visionary, creating outfits that you never would have thought of on your own. You may think your closet does not hold such dreams, but stylists are creatives who are eager to step up to the challenge of helping people redefine themselves through their clothing.

On a more practical level, styling is a value-based business where you are addressing your closet in a manner similar to the way you would handle your financial assets. We help you determine what to buy, what to hold, and what to sell. Having a well rounded wardrobe gives you peace of mind and makes getting dressed easier for every occasion. Stylists assess what is working for you within your wardrobe and what is problematic. The goal will be an overall group of well curated elements that work together and complement you. Balance is key and having a professional assess what you’ve acquired can start saving you money and help keep you looking your best with what you’ve already acquired.

Finding a stylist you are comfortable with is key since this is a very personal business. You want to make sure this person is someone who understands your needs, your lifestyle and your budget. Every stylist has a different approach; some are more methodical and others are more intuitive, but either approach can give you the results you desire.

The truth is you have already purchased the clothing in your wardrobe. Why not maximize on your investment instead of continuing to spend time and money without getting the results you desire? If you are struggling with never feeling pulled together or dissatisfied with what is in your closet, or simply have too much and need someone to help dedicate it accordingly, take the first step and make an appointment. Finding a good stylist who listens to you and starts to understand you becomes an asset that we all deserve. They want nothing more than to help you have a healthy relationship with your appearance. My goal is to help you to accomplish this. Over time, the initial investment will pay back dividends in savings and confidence, and that’s a financial picture that even Warren Buffet would applaud!

*** Never underestimate the power of a good tailor or alterations person.  Men have been using this trade source for years and women need to understand that just because they are not an off-the-rack size does not mean they cannot acquire a perfect fit. If you are a hard fit and need alterations, consider buying higher quality items but less of them. Here is an article I found where one woman did a self-analysis on her closet…the results are very interesting but look how she feels the process will change her approach to shopping.  A consultant can help you determine where to invest so that you stay within your budget but still have great breadth in your wardrobe.
