Styling up skirts and dresses for the winter can be tricky. Between hosiery, footwear and layers, there are a lot of moving parts and many ways to go wrong. But by keeping things simple and following a few guidelines, you can create some amazing winter looks with your skirts and dresses that will take you from the office to a holiday party. Unless you are an advanced fashionista, or want to spend a lot of time playing around with your look, stick to these introductory rules.
On Tights: avoid patterned tights or tights in bright colors; stick to neutral colors such as gray, navy, chocolate brown and black; match your tights to either your skirt, your shoes, or both for a long continuous line.
On Shoes: choose shoes that won’t slip off with tights such as boots, booties or heels with ankle straps.
On Colors: keep the elements of your look simple and coordinated, don’t try to introduce too many colors or prints; keep the head to toe look to two main colors and one accent to avoid choppiness.
On Layering: try layering a blouse or turtleneck underneath your dress or layer up with a blazer or cardigan.
