Street Style: Lindsay Boudreaux

Lindsay Boudreaux has the best smile.  It is crooked and utterly charming, just like Lindsay.  (Charming, not crooked, of course.)  She is kind, funny, and ridiculously down to earth.  There is no pretense with this one, what you see is what you get.  She is my people.

I first met Lindsay three years ago through our dear mutual friend, Rashmi Pappu.  (Thanks again, Rashmi!)  Her gentle ease made me like her immediately.  As we commiserated with our fellow female entrepreneurs, it occurred to us that we could help each other out.  About six months later a design partnership was born.  (See my post from yesterday.)

What I like about Lindsay as a designer is that she isn’t a one trick pony.  She doesn’t force her style on her clients, instead she listens to what they want and works with her clients to find the perfect fit for them.  I should know; last year she helped me with a kitchen and two bath renovations in our home. By navigating me through tile, counter finishes, and space planning, we worked together to create something better than I could have imagined.

Every day, she continues to inspire me to stretch my design wings and my business imagination.  After reading about her, I think she will inspire you, too.  Ladies and gentlemen, I give you my friend, Lindsay Boudreaux.

Lindsay is wearing clothing and accessories from The Hive and The Shoe Hive.

ABOUT YOU

How do you spend your time? I work full time as an interior designer for my own company, Shotgun Double, LLC, and am mom to two young boys who keep me very busy!

Neighborhood: Waynewood

How long have you lived in Alexandria: 16 years!

What is your hometown? Metairie, Louisiana (New Orleans)

What brought you to Alexandria? A year out of college, my job prospects in New Orleans were slim, so I interviewed for some jobs in D.C., because I had family living here at the time who offered me a free place to stay until I got my footing.  I got a few offers and took the best one, a design assistant with Allan Greenberg Architect, LLC.  I fell in love with Alexandria and eventually met my husband and started my family here (and my business!).

What would surprise people about you? That I have never been anywhere outside of North America…I try not to let it show. ;o)

You’re a superhero: what’s your superpower? I can read your mind!

Favorite cocktail: Sidecar

Last book read or movie seen: Love Warrior, by Glennon Melton.  Last movie I saw was “13th.”

Guilty Pleasure: Chocolate…specifically the nonpareils from Kilwin’s

Phrase you overuse: “I mean…”

Facebook or Instagram? INSTAGRAM!

Latest binge-watch: “This Is Us” and “Abstract” (on Netflix)

Bucket list travel destination: This is tough, because I haven’t traveled much out of the country, so I want to go everywhere! But honestly, a gastronomical tour of Western Europe would be amazing.

If you only could have one for the rest of your life: wine or coffee?  COFFEE.

FASHION

Define your style in three words or less: Comfortable, modern, classic

The go-to piece in your wardrobe: Frame denim jeans from TSALT

Favorite trend ever: distressed/aged/ripped denim

Favorite current trend: Uh…I have no idea what’s cool right now.

Beauty product you can’t live without: Tom Ford Wild Ginger lipstick

Favorite fragrance: Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt

Heels or flats? Flats :-/

HOME

Favorite room in your home: Living Room

Antiques, modern, or a mix? Definitely a mix – New Orleans is in my blood, so I love crusty, old architectural details with clean-lined, modern furniture.

Last item bought for your home: Brooklinen bedding – it is AMAZING.

Next planned purchase: Furniture for the basement – right now it is just a wild, open, play space for the kiddos.

Favorite way to entertain: Love a casual house party and hanging on the porch.

Clutter-free or well-lived in? Constantly striving for ‘clutter-free,’ but ‘lived-in’ seems to rule the day.

Wallpaper — yes, totally modern or no, so dated: Love it!  Bring on the pattern and texture, especially now that there are so many great, temporary designs.

FITNESS

Your go-to work-out: Fit 4 Mom Body Back (HIIT) classes 3-4 times a week

Most fun way to exercise: Love bike riding on the paths along the river with my family in the summertime.

Group exercise or solo: Group

Fitness goal: To keep up with my current 3-4x week workout regimen indefinitely

Haven’t yet, but might be willing to try with coaching / encouragement: I feel like I’ve tried it all at this point…but maybe a dance class?

Proudest fitness achievement: It took me three years to get up the strength and confidence to do a yoga headstand. :o)

ALEXANDRIA

Favorite spot in Alexandria:  Our family loves to take walks at Dyke Marsh Preserve by Belle Haven Marina

Last purchase in Alexandria: A Rag & Bone dress from The Hive

Best coffee / happy hour / date night spot: Happy hour is no longer in my vocab, but oysters at Hank’s, followed by wine at Sonoma Cellar makes for a great date night!

Favorite charity: ALIVE! House – I assist a friend each year with a large yard sale to benefit the women and children in this program.

Favorite annual Alexandria event: The Alexandria Art Festival in September

  • The latest from Amy
Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Red Barn Mercantile opened its doors in September 2007 with a single vision in mind: providing old and new to offer our customers signature whole-room designs at great prices.

We’re more than a furniture boutique and provide more personalized service than a big box retailer. We work hard to bring you the highest quality furniture and gifts, the most unique conversation starters, wall hangings and accent pieces, whether they come from off-the-beaten-track flea markets, or the latest designers.
