staying cool in fall clothes

Reader: It was 95 degrees outside yesterday. I can’t bring myself to shop for fall when it’s that hot, but stores are pretty much sold out of my size in summer wear. Should I just hold off on the shopping until it gets cooler?

The Zoe Girls: This time of year is confusing for both shoppers and store owners. We have had fall on our minds for months, but when the temperatures approach 100 degrees some of the clothing we have in store makes little sense. Fashion is a strange beast, but I have two pieces of good news for you. The first is that it looks like the temperatures will be dropping significantly starting tomorrow! So it might make a lot more sense very soon.

The second is that a fall/winter line may not be limited to what you think of as “fall clothes.” Remember that most designers create complete lines consisting of blouses, sweaters, pants, dresses, coats and more. We try to carry a variety of pieces and styles at Zoe, and I know Kiskadee does the same. Take our line of Velvet tops as an example. Velvet is known for its lightweight, extremely soft fabrics, and even though it’s fall we are carrying a selection of very basic blouses and tunics in their signature fabrics which can be worn today on their own or tomorrow with a light blazer or cardigan. So, while you’re welcome to hold off on the fall shopping until the weather warrants sleeves and layers, you may also miss out on your size. There is plenty in stores that can be worn now and later.
