spring style prep

Continuing the conversation that Cathy started last week regarding Making the Most of Downtime, I thought I would share what I’ve been doing to prepare for Spring ’15 and my clients’ needs. This entails taking into account what the trends are and how they will translate into real life situations. While not everyone’s interests revolve around clothing, trends, fashion editor’s selections and the newest volume of Vogue, most everyone does want to dress in styles that make them feel relevant without seeming like a “fashion try-hard.” Stylists do not want to imprint their clients with the latest and greatest from the runway. Our job is to make men and women feel confident in their clothes and save them time and energy by making some tweaks each season and incorporate items that still feel innate to their individual style.

February is when the first deliveries start arriving in stores for Spring. As stylists, we revisit what made the cut (literally, what items were cut based on orders from the buyers’ selections), and how those pieces can update wardrobes of our clients. I take into account where we live and how I envision those trends will be seen as relatable. Some of my clients travel to London and New York and can amp up their choices accordingly – but I find that Old Town has a very sensible approach to style. Here are some of the top trends for SS15. Consider which trends you gravitate towards and what you already own before you head out to shop for spring. Think about what looks you can recreate. I’ve made a few suggestions based on giving a nod to what the fashion editors are focusing on Or, set up an appointment and let me handle guiding you subtly and seamlessly into spring.

I’ll keep this conversation going on my website ~ if you want to follow the trends this spring with me as I seek out the ideal pieces for my clients, follow along on Pinterest and Instagram as well.

Alicia’s tip: Number one pick is the Infantry Jacket or Shirt if you don’t already own one. The military style dress with a fuller skirt may be something you already own…bring it out this spring! Sundry, Ali & Ro (The Shoe Hive) or Equipment (Kiskadee) have all covered this well.

Alicia’s tip: Consider a shirtdress or an A-line skirt.

Alicia’s tip: Fringe is still strong – if you like the look, a bag will cover this trend well. (Coco Blanca may still have those amazing bags!)

Alicia’s tip: This is ideal for those who love a classic approach to dressing. A dress, shirt, bathing suit, shorts, skirt…the possibilities are endless. Also, perfect for the guys – does he have a gingham shirt yet? A gift card would make the perfect Valentine’s Day gift to get this into his wardrobe.

Alicia’s tip: Not everyone loves a lot of pattern so consider playing up your shoes with florals – that way you can keep the rest of your outfit one color…denim or white…and pop a bouquet splash at your feet!

Alicia’s tip: This trend has Coco Blanca written all over it! Filmy, tranquil pieces are very on trend but keep your footwear very practical – a pair of Supergas in white or the latest flat sandals with wide straps will be practical and relevant this spring.
