Spring Break 2017

This spring, I, along with two other moms, am chaperoning our high school senior sons’ Spring Break trip to Atlantis in the Bahamas. The boys proposed their trip by composing “to the parents” a very well thought out and researched vacation plan with pricing on airfare, lodging, and food in the Bahamas.

We worked through some details and compromises, as they conveniently chose a place where they can all now legally drink and gamble.  (Which is why we insisted on chaperones, even though they have deemed themselves adults now.) But with logistics in order, we are ready to go!

Packing for a trip to an island paradise with girlfriends or my husband is one thing but packing to chaperone 18-year-old boys is different.  Obviously, this means I’m leaving behind most of my bikinis and bodycon dresses! But I can still wear some fabulous items that allow me to feel chic and at my Bahamas best!

First, my travel outfit is a chic, black neoprene-type tank dress with pockets from one of my favorite lines at TSALT, Marie St. Pierre, topped off with a JET jean jacket.

My Veronica Beard floral dress from The Hive will effortlessly go from walking around Nassau in the day to hitting the casino at night.

My island spirit will be comforted with a floaty, silk, maxi wrap dress from Natalie Martin…

…and Andy Kully’s palm print cover up, which also pairs with silk pants, will cover me from daytime lunches through evening walks on the beach.

Of course, owning a travel-inspired boutique makes packing a little bit easier, and no trip should go without one of our TSALT Cowl Neck Dresses. The fabric is wrinkle resistant, and can be styled so many different ways.

These outfits are transitional and travel-friendly pieces. My goal is to fit these lightweight items effortlessly into the trip, but reality might mean that I’m mostly wearing workout clothes and sneakers.

Happily I can still be fashionable in our favorite Ultracor leggings and ready to jump out of bed and into action given any situation.

This trip, my focus is on the boys and my suitcase needs to be able to hold Brita filtration bottles, electrolyte packets to keep them from being dehydrated, and lots of snacks, beef jerky, protein bars and tons of sunscreen! I’m having my lashes done beforehand so that my makeup regimen is paired down to a tinted sunscreen and lip gloss.

I’ll finish off my travel outfit with a multifunctional, leather backpack that has special compartments to hold all of my electronic chargers, laptop, phone and iPad, as well as all my jewelry and toiletries. It’s also spacious enough to hold a wrap for the flight and a neck pillow!

Checkout our Facebook and Instagram to see pictures of the trip as it unfolds! We are excited for sun, pool, beach, golf, snorkeling, and maybe a little bit of slot machines or baccarat! This is a great group of boys and we hope to have a trip they will fondly reminisce, bond, and laugh over for many years to come!

TRAVEL TIP: Use your flat iron for quick clothing fixes. Perfect for collars and quick wrinkle touch ups. I have a mini one that I always take along for just this purpose.
