Spring 2021: Trends for Spring Engagements

Nationwide, the most popular month to get engaged in is December but at our shop, we think of May as our engagement rush. With the weather so gorgeous here in the spring, couples are inspired and frankly ready to make moves after months of being cooped up! For those starting a search, here are the top trends I’m seeing in engagement rings at our shop this season and,  heads up– if you’re hoping to pop the question in May, now’s the time to make your appointment for your ring!

Yellow Gold

The yellow gold rush is going strong, and we’re here for it! We love that clients are opting for this warm, sunny hue– it makes designs really pop and adds beautiful depth to rings. The old adage that you should never set a diamond in yellow gold just isn’t true! Diamonds can look beautiful (and white) in yellow gold, and we’re happy to create settings that reflect this.

Large Center Stones

That being said, with Covid impacting wedding sizes, we’re seeing couples investing their party dollars into larger center stones for some truly gorgeous feature diamond ring designs. We have made some stunning rings over the last few weeks featuring truly beautiful gemstones that feature the center stone as the star of the show, and we’re here for that. It’s hard to beat a beautifully set 2ct diamond!

Horizontally Set Diamonds

This style is perfect for brides who want something a little different but still enjoy classic styles. It’s just a little more laid back and streamlined in its effect than your standard North/South alignment and we love it especially with emerald cuts or ovals.

Alternative Settings

While you can’t go wrong with a classic design, we’re loving that clients are opting for a wide variety of styles that branch out from your traditional solitaire. Our Artemer collection has been hugely popular for brides who want an engagement ring that doesn’t look too… ‘engagement-y’. More and more brides are opting for low profile, interesting styles that stand on their own.

Creative Director & Co-Owner | Alexandria & Company
I came to join Alexandria & Company by way of love: my husband Tim has owned the stop for nearly ten years, and I started by helping him on Saturdays so that we could spend more time together. Eventually, I quit my other life in the legal field to become Alx&Co’s Creative Director and co-owner with Tim. Now, we run our small business together in Old Town and I haven’t looked back.

Alexandria & Company is an Old Town-based workshop and design studio specializing in creating and restoring fine jewelry and silver hollowware. They are the in-the-know jewelers of Alexandria and have been serving clients out of their small workshop for decades. Tucked in their historic building on South Royal Street, the team at Alx&Co. brings a personalized, modern approach to their craft – this is not your average stodgy jeweler or antique shop. Visit them during their walk-in hours or online to view their collection of handmade fine jewelry or to drop off a repair project; or, if you’re feeling creative, make an appointment to talk about that custom design project you’ve been imagining.
