It’s Sally Ride Day: Let’s Defy Gravity
Once upon a time, 8-year-old Elizabeth went to school dressed as Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. This was for a school project, and as you can see from this photo of pure 90s gold, I was a goddess before my time. (Oh, and shout-out to my mom, Jan, for stitching the NASA on my turtleneck collar.) Sally Ride was not only the first American woman to fly in space, she was a professor and educational innovator — the kind of woman parents cite when telling their daughters to try hard and get good grades, because who knows what awesome things they could accomplish?
