It has always intrigued me to see how the “extreme” fashion trends on the runways eventually filter down into a domesticated version for consumers like you and me, people who still love fashion but prefer a more understated translation of the flamboyant.
London Fashion Week in February seemed to embrace the inner romantic side with delicate, feminine looks on the runway in the palest of pastel shades (so perfect for this upcoming wedding season). And in New York, the same romantic style was also served up by designers, but with eye-catching and ornate designs for a grand emotional element.
One might feel an industrial revolution is being parodied when you see the chain links and hardware used in the latest necklace designs by Giambattista Valli, Givenchy, and Chanel. But take note, too, how the use of flowy scarves and hybrid scarf chokers have emerged into a trending neck piece, worn closely around the neck in place of or alongside of jewelry. Christian Dior’s chokers go to the extreme, appearing tourniquet tight yet fabulously feminine!
Obviously, the best way to demonstrate my point about the trickle-down effect of extreme runway fashion trends is to view images of what’s trending on the runways and then view the merchandise offered to retailers like Coco Blanca we saw in New York during our latest buying trip. It’s a visual feast!
From the runways…
The Extreme
The Industrial
The Collar
Scarves as neck jewelry
From our buying trip at market…
Toned down industrial
Toned down statement pieces
Toned down collars and tassel pendants
And the scarf
