Want to see more than $30 million in jewelry and watches? Look no further than the 2018 Oscars. This year was clearly all about that old-school Hollywood glamour as the red carpet was awash with high-definition sapphires, diamonds, and incredible works of art from the likes of Harry Winston, Chopard, Piaget, and other luxury jewelers. This year was all about the colored gems, white metals, and statement pieces. Read on to see my Top Five picks from Sunday night…
While my personal style is decidedly more minimalist and modern, I can appreciate the absolute splendor that a really amazing, large, dripping-with-gemstones piece brings to the table. Helen Mirren’s sapphire and diamond Harry Winston necklace and earring ensemble are everything you want in red carpet jewelry, and she carries these heavy pieces with such elegance and grace.
Ok, first of all… is that really Jennifer Garner? If it is, she chose well with her sapphire and white gold Piaget earrings, which paired perfectly with her sapphire blue gown. The Art Deco-inspired earrings add some delicate structure to her otherwise flowy look.
I l-o-v-e this necklace. Paired with her 20s inspired Givenchy gown, the Tiffany & Co. diamond and aquamarine necklace rounds out the look for a glamorous but refined ensemble. (sidebar: I’m writing this from the Cayman Islands, you may be sensing an azure-sea-blue theme here…)
These earrings are the perfect accompaniment to Fonda’s white structured Balmain gown. Simple but stunning, the Chopard pear-drop earrings add a dramatic elegance that both softens the look while making it pop.
Another example of glamorous understatement, the Forevermark diamond necklace, bracelets, and ring ensemble that Allison Janney wore proved that sometimes, a lot of sparkle is all you really need. I love the quintessentially Hollywood elegance they brought when paired with her structured coral-red gown and updo.
