Sidewalk Sale: Making Room for the Holidays

This weekend is the annual Alexandria Sidewalk Sale and we are super excited to send you home with some really wonderful goods. Our red pens have been marking items off up to 75 percent! We are talking cards, furniture, pillows, kids’ gifts, rugs, fun office supplies, and on and on. As usual, to sweeten the deal, we will be taking an additional 10 percent off any sale items! This year Red Barn Mercantile’s block will be blocked off for tents and outdoor dining, meter parking will once again be free, more than 60 stores will flood the sidewalks with goodies, flamingoes will be flocking the streets and Instagram pages, and an information tent will be on the corner across from Penny Post where you can pick up free masks, hand sanitizer, and water to keep you safe and hydrated.

We need to make room for all the fall and holiday merchandise, so we are cleaning out the stores! Since June we have been working on our Christmas plans. Questions like, what to buy, what to do, what to add, and what to eliminate have been swirling around in our heads. In this new environment, we are at a loss and could really use your help. Because the holidays are make or break for most retail, we would appreciate hearing about your plans and needs this holiday season. If you would take a moment to fill out this quick seven question survey, we would be tremendously grateful.

With your help, we hope to make this holiday season – and this Sidewalk Sale – one to remember. In a good way, of course! So, fill out the survey, don your masks, grab your hand sanitizer, and come on down to Old Town and Del Ray this weekend. Oh, and don’t forget to stay six feet apart. (Wink. Wink.)

  • The latest from Amy
Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Red Barn Mercantile opened its doors in September 2007 with a single vision in mind: providing old and new to offer our customers signature whole-room designs at great prices.

We’re more than a furniture boutique and provide more personalized service than a big box retailer. We work hard to bring you the highest quality furniture and gifts, the most unique conversation starters, wall hangings and accent pieces, whether they come from off-the-beaten-track flea markets, or the latest designers.
