This past year has been hell and us gals deserve to treat ourselves. From endless meal prep, house cleaning, piles of laundry, snow days, virtual learning, and teaching, we have had it. Not to mention, literally no alone time. If you’re anything like me, I’m sure you’ve found yourself staying up late, watching your shows, just to find a moment of peace. Only to be totally depleted of energy the next day. By the way, I shouldn’t really complain – I don’t even have kids!
This year for Valentine’s Day, I thought, screw it, I’m buying myself something I love in addition to whatever my husband is doing for me. Every now and again I deserve a treat. Yes, that’s right, I deserve it, and so do you! The way I see it, if you’ve managed to stay married, keep your kids and animals alive, manage parents and in-laws, and avoid COVID… well, you’ve just about crushed it this year! So, treat yourself with a little special something that says, “Hey girl, this is for just you!”
I think one of the worst mistakes we can make as women is caring for ourselves last. What’s worse is it’s so easy to do as a natural default. However, I firmly believe in order to be at my best for my family, I have to take care of myself first. If I’m not at my best personally, I can’t be at my best for them. So, self-love = shopping for yourself. If your husband gives you a hard time about this, my advice is to first try “Husband’s Day.” I’ve implemented it in our household, where I celebrate him as well one particular day of the year, so I feel no guilt when I treat myself.
If that doesn’t work – leave him! Throw him out with the garbage if he doesn’t fully understand the value you add to your household. In the words of Ken Todd (RHOBH), “Gooooobye Kyle!” And if you already have and find yourself without a boo this Valentine’s season, give yourself a pat on the back and remember you did the right thing for you – and then do some retail therapy. Duh!
With that said, I curated a couple gifts that are unique and really say embrace yourself just as you are! They’re season-less, fun, and some of my favorites ALX has to offer. Plus, what makes a great gift? A splurgy item you probably wouldn’t normally buy yourself…. indulge yourself below:
Slippers that say, “Mom’s on break right now,” when you’re drinking wine and eating Cheetos Puffs in bed. Yes, I specified “puffs.”
A beaded handbag that says, “Got to go sweetie, it’s girls’ night!”
Sweatsuit from Lauren Moshi that says, “Happy Valentine’s Day to me, I’m fabulous.”
