how to: simple braided updo

I’ve been playing around with the new Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It, and I think I’ve discovered my favorite way to use it. The picture for this look is my own, so you can see that it can work when you’re doing a braided updo style on yourself.

Step One: Wash and condition with a texturizing shampoo and conditioner, like those from Bumble and Bumble Surf. Blot water from hair with a towel, and finger a side part. We don’t want or need comb precision for this look.

Step Two: Immediately after removing the towel, work Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow it in, starting at ends. Don’t comb through, but allow your hair to keep the texture the towel gave you. Mist a little Bumble and Bumble Surf Infusion or Unite Beach Day Texture Spray all over, and allow to settle. Now: don’t touch it. Let it air dry. (See where the Don’t Blow It is working for you?) Feel free to sleep on it, if you don’t have enough time to do this style day-of.

Step Three: When your hair is totally dry, sprinkle Unite Expanda Dust through the crown at the root, then add a little on the mid-shaft to ends of your hair, for texture. You can also spritz a dry texture spray, like Bumble and Bumble Dryspun Finish or Unite Texturiza through the lengths.

Step Four: Pick two small-medium sized sections and make two braids, on the same side of your head. No need to fuss with a French braid, a free braid will do. Clip the finished braid at its end until you’re ready to pull the rest of the hair back.

Step Five: Here’s where you can get different: In the hairstyle in my photo, I’ve got my hair pulled into two low side buns. I find that when I wear my hair like this, people start thinking I’m secretly 18 (this will come in handy in ten years, no doubt). If that’s not really your scene, you can pull the hair into one low ponytail with a Blax hair tie. The next actions are pretty much the same, whether you’re rocking one bun or two.

Step Six: Use a brush or comb to tease the tail(s). Begin twirling your hair around the base of the tail, creating a bun. It won’t be super neat, nor should it be. We’re going for cute beach hair, here! Bobby pin as needed.

Step Seven: Finish with a medium hold hairspray, like Moroccan Oil Luminous Hairspray or Unite Go 365 3-in-1 Hairspray, and go enjoy the summer!
