covering your basics

A couple weeks ago I covered the trends you can expect to see for Spring ’15. No other season is as eagerly anticipated as spring after a winter like we’re currently enduring. Making use of this downtime can be a great benefit saving you time and helping you make better choices. What I’m suggesting is a little maintenance, some thought out initial purchases and mapping out your needs for the next 4 months.

Maintenance
– Take some of last year’s shoes to have repaired. Heels can be fixed and soles added to have them ready for another season of enjoyment. When you are taking time to protect your investment, you are also reacquainting yourself with what you already own and able to make better purchases instead of repeat styles.
– Check hems and buttons on your spring items and see if any of those need to be taken to the tailor.
– Whites are trending strong this spring. Taking time to find your whites and do a little brightening trick will have you ready for the season.

Purchases
– There are a few things I know my clients use each spring and although you may already have white denim and nude shoes, take time to evaluate if you are going to be happy with the fit and styles. If not, get a jump and start the consignment process so that you will be able to turn those items into some cash for replacing them with better versions. Consignment stores get bombarded later once the weather is warmer and wouldn’t it be nice to be receiving a check when everyone else is looking for an appointment?

Mapping
We have some colder days ahead and you may be getting your calendar together with upcoming spring events. Think about what you will be doing and what you have to wear for those events. I like to help clients break their lifestyle into categories for dressing. Then we assess if they have the correct amount of clothing for those categories. It’s not necessarily figuring out every event initially but knowing you have 6 events in the next 4 months but also need some everyday items, workout wear, and perhaps some professional attire to get you through spring. This helps establish a budget and where you want to dedicate funds.

Getting these things done will allow you to enjoy sunny days with friends and family when they finally get here.
