Closing in on My Daughter’s January Wedding
My daughter, her fiancé, and I shared one last rendezvous together back home over the long Columbus Day weekend doing “wedding stuff” in preparation for their nuptial celebration coming up in January. Who knew time would zoom by so quickly since our July hard hat tour at The Trump Hotel (formerly the Old Post Office Pavilion), the venue of the big celebration (and I’m referring to the wedding — not the presidential inauguration which will take place just six days later).
Once again with my iPhone in hand, I decided this would be a fun follow-up “wedding planning” post to share with Stylebook. First up was a bridal shower at The Hamilton in D.C. Yes, we were greeted with rain as we Uber’d in, but soon we were met with smiling faces and mimosas. Sarah and I won’t travel anywhere without either our cashmere or cotton fringe wraps by Acrobat from Coco Blanca!
The next day the planning began to come together as we arrived for the menu tasting at Ivanka Trump’s gorgeous renovation at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue. Now completed and open for business, we were delighted to tour the spacious lounges and guest rooms where the original metal framework of the Old Post Office Pavilion was very much incorporated into the design. As we sat at the Benjamin Bar and Lounge in the Grand Lobby, sipping tea before our menu tasting began, we reached for our sunglasses; the sunlight was shining ever so brightly through the glass porte cochere and the soaring nine-story atrium.
A quick tour of the guest rooms provided an aerial experience as the view from each balcony looked down onto the Grand Lobby. Such gorgeous natural light beamed down from the glass ceiling, creating a stunning visual sense of majestic grandeur. And the guest rooms were equally as splendid with beautiful crystal chandeliers hanging from high ceilings, marble-everything in the bathrooms, and artwork showing the history of the Old Post Office Pavilion.
Soon we were greeted by the Director of Social Catering Sales, Rebecca Ventura, who provided us with the floor plan while we sat down for the menu tasting with Sarah’s fiancé, Mac, and her brother, Malcolm. And, of course, the tasting would not be complete without our floral samples provided by Phyllis Kennedy of The Enchanted Florist. So many decisions to make from an incredible selection! And what fun to notice the slate blue colors in the rug matched very closely to the gowns chosen for Sarah’s bridesmaids.
Last, but certainly not least, it was all about the wedding updo. And I can’t say enough about the talent of Carola Myers and her team. Sarah’s 11 bridesmaids are in for a treat! What a fun Stylebook post that will be in 2017!
