the challenge of summer style

Karen: Hi gals! I have to go to a meet and greet executive event at a Nats game in a couple of weeks. I don’t believe we will have our own air-conditioned room, so what on earth do I wear to stay cool but look appropriate? Please help!

Cathy, Style Speaks: As I mentioned earlier this week in our look of the day, looking professional in the summer heat is a challenge! Since this is an executive event, it’s important that you maintain an appropriate professional presentation but, at the same time, this is a baseball game in summertime, which means that image expectations are not the same as being in the office. A skirt or dress is the best way to stay cool and still look professional. Look for something in a tailored shape, such as an a-line skirt, in a light weight fabric. Go for sleeveless on top but not a skin baring tank top. Finally, leave the flip flops at home and opt for a dressy sandal in a low wedge that’s easy to walk around in (even if you’re going straight to the executive suite, there’s always a bit of walking involved at National’s Stadium!). Add a piece or two of statement jewelry to ensure you feel polished and confident for your meet and greet.

Thanks so much Cathy!! Love the shoes – I will swing by the Shoe Hive today and see if they still have my size. The NY taxi-themed flats featured in today’s stylebook newsletter might also have to come home with me, too!

  2. You’re welcome, Karen! Let me know how your outfit turns out and enjoy the game!
