the beautyblender craze

There’s recently been a huge craze about the beautyblender. I’ve known of this product for years (oh, pardon, is my inner makeup snob showing?), and I have to be honest with you all…when I first heard of it, I didn’t understand what the big deal was. Like many of our clients who come in curious about this sponge, I thought, “I’ve got about a thousand brushes and wedge sponges at my disposal–why bother?”

And then I used it.

This thing is fantastic. Its unique texture and patent-pending shape make it the perfect companion to just about any product in your facial wardrobe, from serum right on through blush. I’ve found myself using one when I wear tinted moisturizer, another for my Jouer cream cheek tint and for my Kevyn Aucoin highlighter, and their new micro mini blender for concealer. I use the original beautyblender (the pink one you see everywhere of late) on about 75% of consultation clients here at the store.

The trick with the beautyblender is to thoroughly wet it and then squeeze out as much excess water as you can–it should feel cool, not damp. I wrap mine briefly in a towel to achieve that. You’ll see that it almost doubles in size and becomes squishy and flexible to get into every contour of your face. With the beautyblender, moisturizer absorbs almost immediately and skin looks refreshed, not coated or greasy; foundation and tinted moisturizer look almost airbrushed and velvety-soft; cream blush appears rose petal-dewy. How can you go wrong?! You can even use a dry blender for powder blushes and highlighters. The beautyblender is becoming a huge trend, but this is one I can get behind! It has real staying power (and your makeup will, too).
