ask stylebook: static cling?

Elizabeth, The Shoe Hive: I can’t seem to kick the static cling, especially when it comes to silk in winter. Should I just pack them up for winter? No one wants to see my shirt sticking to my muffin top. What do I do?

Alicia, The TulleBox: Here are my quick tips for static and silk during the winter months…Summer and silk is an entirely different post!

Metal
Hide a safety pin inside the placket of your silk blouse; the metal discharges the electrical build up. Keep a thimble handy or one metal hanger and touch the blouse with the metal prior to putting it on.

Rubber
Watch out for the rubber soles when you’re wearing silk; rubber accumulates electrical charges.

Hairspray
A little hairspray (from a distance) will keep the cling away.

Laundry Dryer Sheets
An old trick from my days at Hysteria: We kept a box of Bounce sheets in the closet that came in handy during the dry winter months.

My last two tips…

Keep your skin well moisturized and run a humidifier! How many more weeks until spring??
