ask stylebook: coral come fall?

Caroline: Can I wear a coral dress on a date this week or is it too late in the year for coral?

Alicia, The Tulle Box: Typically, I use the light as my guide for color choices. Bright saturated colors are best in spring and summer when the sun is highest in the sky. Colors get more muted as we go into fall and winter. Shoulder seasons can be tricky if the weather is holding onto the previous season. If your dress is truly a saturated coral, I would look for something else to wear. The fabric is another relevant piece to this question. Lightweight silk or a more substantial textile? You can cheat the seasons in a number of ways when your fabrics are heavier. Another trick is to wear a scarf (perhaps animal print) and a denim jacket – that way you are letting the base of the dress act as an accent. Then finish this look with some closed toe shoes or ankle boots. Have a great time!
