A Very Alexandria Wedding, Indeed: Part 1

As some of you may remember from her previous “A Very Alexandria Wedding” posts, Britt and her new husband, Geoff, planned their nuptials in accordance with all things Alexandria. Those of you who know Britt know that she adores Alexandria almost as much as she adores Geoff, so this made total sense. I had expected there to be a few details that brought in the wonderful city in which Britt was born and raised — but I should have known it would be so much more than that, because Britt never does anything halfway. The wedding that finally took place after a ton of planning, mindboggling attention to detail by Britt and her amazing wedding planner, Kelley Cannon of Kelley Cannon Events, and months of eager anticipation could not have been more Alexandria. It also could not have been more fun.

The weekend kicked off Friday night with what I’m sure was a magnificent rehearsal dinner, during which I hear more than a few tears were shed as Britt’s youngest brother, Johnny, made a heartfelt speech. The rehearsal dinner was followed by a welcome party at the Athenaeum, where well-dressed guests enjoyed caramel cake with more layers than I can accurately recall, an open bar with skilled and knowledgeable bartenders, and great conversation among new friends and old. Everyone left with cups with Britt and Geoff’s names, the great state of Virginia, and a “Sold” sign on them (the first of many signature cups offered as gifts throughout the weekend—Britt loves her personalized cups), as well as very practical welcome bags containing a delicious Virginia-shaped cookie, Virginia peanuts, water bottles, personalized koozies, mints, gum, and Advil (you know, just in case anyone woke up with a headache from all of the sugar in the cookies and cake).

Rainy weather forecasts made us all very nervous and necessitated some last-minute improvisation by Britt and Geoff’s families, their wedding planner, and friends and neighbors who kindly offered help and suggestions, but the rain miraculously went away just in time for everyone to arrive and stay dry as they walked into gorgeous St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on South Pitt on Saturday afternoon.

Due to some sort of weird telepathy, The Patterson Group members (save for Britt and Phyllis, obviously) arrived at the same time and walked into a breathtaking church decorated with joyful guests and stunning floral arrangements by Flora Couture’s Audra Gannon. Audra did the bouquet, too, choosing David Austin blush Keira and white Patience roses, white dahlias, and garden blush spray roses completed with a pearl wrap. (For more information on the wedding flowers, see Britt’s previous post.)

The ceremony went off without a hitch, even though Britt and Geoff got hitched (ha ha…I’ve used that joke twice and that is two times too many); it was truly beautiful down to every last hymn, verse, and detail. My favorite moments were of watching Britt walk down the aisle arm in arm with her dad, the famous Ken Patterson, and hearing her say her vows with a mixture of nervousness (so rare for Britt, so you know she was excited), emotion, and laughter. Shuttles were waiting outside after the ceremony to escort guests to the reception, which took place in Phyllis and Ken’s backyard on the Potomac…and will be discussed at length in Part Two!

In the meantime, follow The Patterson Group on Instagram at @pattersongroupsothebysrealty for more pictures of the event.
