Lipstick can be intimidating. If you don’t usually wear it, there’s definitely a learning curve when it comes to which to pick and when to wear it. But! If you ask me, there are some basic lip colors that every girl should have in her arsenal.

For: Photos with your girls, the will-he-kiss-me-if-I’m-wearing-lipstick test, and any time you need to feel like a bad bee-yotch.
How to wear it: Make it the focus of your makeup look. Be sure you have freshly-exfoliated lips before applying, and keep a lip liner in a matching or coordinating shade handy for perfecting the line and tweaking throughout hours of wear.

The I-Do-What-I-Want Offbeat Lipstick
For: The days you just want to go a little wild.
How to wear it: Do your normal face of makeup…and apply as you would any other lip. For a lip like this, I’d say it’s pretty important to make sure you’re wearing a full face, unlike the look you may wear with the above option.

The Dinner-and-Drinks Neutral Lipstick
For: Dinners with the in-laws, big work meetings or presentations, and any time you want the world to know you mean business.
How to wear it: Keep makeup classic and clean. Simple, dark eyeliner, dewy complexion, combed and kept brows.
