guide to: casual fall looks + a special deal

We all know someone whose casual style is anything but casual. She shows up to the grocery store and looks effortlessly chic in a denim jacket, casual pants and flats. Sometimes this happens organically but usually it’s one of a few things…she’s practiced since she was young, she has a formula for “chic” at every level, or she has a stylist that has given her nothing but great options in her closet and has eliminated the pieces that steer her wrong.

Olivia Palermo is one of those women who has defined our modern day chic. Her casual day is one of my best days. For our fall casual look week, I took a page from Ms. Palmero’s style book here with some amazing pieces to incorporate into your own wardrobe. The top is a must have if you own any of the following ~ denim, winter white pants/skirt, leather pants, grey pencil skirt, charcoal wide leg pants, merlot skinnies, jewel tone skirt, a white blouse, black blazer…the list can go on and on.

The skirt is another great addition to some closet staples ~ black turtleneck, leather or fur vest, hot pink sweater, denim jacket, hunter boots, grey booties, black suede pumps, ivory blouse…

Finding great punctuation marks to the items you already own is a great way to shop but you need to make sure you have invested properly season to season in those core elements. When your closet is a mishmash of separates that don’t have any other option but denim and black pants, your economy is out of whack and you may want to consider spending a little on a professional. During the month of October, I am offering 2 hour consultations for $200 which is approximately 30% off for the first 5 Stylebook readers to contact me. This type of constellation will be geared toward putting outfits together where the client will be able to take notes on what pieces they should purchase in order to create more looks from their wardrobe. It can also include what items you should eliminate or have altered to receive a better fit. Times available will include Saturday between 10 AM and noon or weekdays between 9 and 11 AM. It’s a great time to get a handle on your closet and tweak your style to where you too can be that woman who looks pulled together while doing the most ordinary, everyday tasks.

Breaking down the look: I put together a look that could be easily chic for a rainy day but bring the suede bootie for a quick change and go to brunch or out with friends. The cross body is the ideal size for getting around town and has the ability to convert to a hand tote. I selected the Wolford grey tights for a softer look with the bootie but you can also use a black tight with the rainbows. For jewelry, because the scale of the plaid is large, bolder jewelry is necessary as to not get lost, however I brought down the scale of the earring in order to not overpower the overall effect. I also wore a dark rouge noir polish on my nails to add some drama…something brighter would work but I prefer darker colors for fall.
