what to wear: easy summer dresses

As we inch closer to summer and the humidity starts rising, we look to shed those layers and wear things that are easy and most importantly cool. We all know that the DC area can get darn right hot and sticky in the midst of summer, so we know we have to get strategic when selecting our clothing so that we feel cool and refreshed instead of a looking like a sweaty mess.

Our favorite way to beat the heat in the summer is by wearing dresses. Many people shy away from dresses because they either think they don’t look good in them or that they are too girly or fancy for everyday wear. But there are so many comfortable and flattering options out there that aren’t overly feminine or formal looking. We find that the most understated dresses make much more of a style statement than most of the colorful floral dresses you see.

Our ideal summer dresses are those that are loose fitting, made in neutral shades and produced out of fabric that is as light as air. These are the types of dresses that we stock our closets with and wear from day to night, all summer long. They are also perfect to pack along on a vacation since they take up virtually no room in your suitcase and can be worn multiple times on one trip.

Susie is wearing one of her personal favorites from Coco and she couldn’t look better. Susie says “ I love wearing dresses in the summer because they are easy, cool, and flattering. They mix well with my (extensive) shoe collection. The jewelry comes last. You’ll be surprised how the look will change with the many choices of earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.

She looks absolutely gorgeous in this breezy white silk shift dress and the statement necklace and metallic clutch really bring the entire look together. It is comfortable enough to wear with flat sandals to run errands around town or you can dress it up like she did with a pretty pair of heels, some fabulous jewelry and you are ready to take on the night! So ditch the sleeves and pants this summer and opt for cool and breezy dresses instead, we promise they will keep you cool as a cucumber as the thermostat keeps rising.
