what to wear (and what to bring to a): summer barbecue
It’s hot. It’s hot and it’s humid. Being outside, unfortunately, isn’t the most ideal way we want to spend our time when the temperature is this high. Our hair frizzes, we sweat and our makeup drips into our shoes. (Thank you to Elizabeth from Bellacara for helping us to master and control that “summer glow”.) Yet, come winter, we are yearning for the days of warmth, and so follows the obligation to spend as much time outside as possible. What, then, is the solution?
1. Finding the perfect outfit that keeps you lookin’ good and feeling comfortable. As always, keep the materials light and breezy. Shorts are always a great option but if you are leaning towards a pant, wide-leg linen breaths nicely and does not cling to you.

2. Your favorite summer refreshment. My mom told me to never show up empty-handed, so why not have a little fun with it? I love sharing my favorite food and beverage finds with friends and family. A couple weeks ago, I had an amazing grapefruit cocktail that kept me cool all night. I call it Molly’s Grapetini on the Rocks.
Ingredients:
-1.5 cups fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
-1.5 plain seltzer water
-.5 cup of gin
-1 shot of Campari
-Grapefriut slices for garnish
Directions:
-Stir the grapefruit juice, seltzer water, Campari and gin over ice in a pitcher.
-Pour into 4 glasses and garnish as desired.
-ENJOY!
BONUS: The seltzer water keeps you hydrated and the grapefruit juice is low in calories!
3. Bug Spray. This could be the most important and useful thing you could bring to a barbecue or anywhere. If you’re anything like me, 30 seconds outside could mean anywhere from one to fifteen bug bites.
