Weekend Away: Virginia Beach
I call Virginia Beach home! I was raised there, as was my father. In fact, my grandparents were some of the first year-round residents at the beach.
I loved growing up at the beach. I know most people deeply believe that where they grew up is perfect. I had the best childhood, and because of my love for my hometown, I want to share all it has to offer.
A few locals are reluctant to spill our beach secrets. Not me! I want you to learn and explore all Virginia Beach has to offer. I feel awful when it rains in the summer and visitors have planned and paid for their vacation, only to spend it inside their hotel or cottage. Rain or shine there is always fun to be had at Virginia Beach. Below, I have listed some of my favorite places to visit…enjoy!
There is a plethora of fantastic activities at Virginia Beach! Number one…stroll the boardwalk! There are multiple festivals throughout the summer you can enjoy. Continue on to First Landing State Park…that’s right…it is the location where English colonists first landed in 1607. Finish the day with free fireworks and then fall into bed!
The next morning, if you surf, or not, you must start your day at the Belvedere restaurant. You will be tempted by the comfort food ranging from biscuits and gravy to omelets and pancakes. Once stuffed, head to the local surf shop WRV to get all of your sun and sand needs. Break for lunch at Taste Unlimited, every morsel they offer is divine — and do not leave without purchasing their special sauce…it is to die for! After basking in the sun stop by Rudee’s for dinner and drinks on the water. You can watch boats dock as you dine and see the passengers disembark. They, too, want to enjoy Rudee’s outdoor beauty.
Virginia Beach is famously known for ocean front dining and restaurants that serve the freshest seafood in the Mid-Atlantic. Casually elegant, each of these restaurants will satisfy the most discriminating palate. Why stop at one? Each restaurant has its own personality…enjoy a night out your entire vacation!
You cannot go wrong at Virginia Beach…my slice of heaven!
