Ugh! What was I thinking?
You’ve been there, admit it. It happens to me when I look at old pictures of myself and cringe, analyzing every detail from my outfit, to my hair, even my jewelry choices (although admittedly that’s a little more rare).
As I approach my one year anniversary at The Hive and The Shoe Hive, I realize now that what I thought I once knew about my own personal style, I no longer know. I have evidently evolved in personal style and taste, and I am getting comfortable with the acknowledgement that I am still figuring it out.
Elizabeth has time and again introduced me to new designers – and pieces of clothes that I don’t know how I lived without. I’m being completely serious. What kind of world was I in before Ulla Johnson and Raquel Allegra? Before I met Mother jeans? Or Current/Elliot muscle tanks? How did I function?
These questions still weigh heavy on me. We all evolve, as does our style. One of the most consistent aspects about style icons, however, is that their style is still relevant now, now matter their era. My grandmother was a firm believer in classic looks, things that “never go out of style” as she would say in my ear while we shopped at Neiman’s. Here and there we would add something “festive” (she loves that word) for the current season, especially around the holidays. I am from Texas, after all – and festive goes with Texas.
So, this year, I want to make a conscious effort to invest in pieces that will last a lifetime. What items should I invest in that I can take out of my closet year after year and still be happy with my purchase? Here are a few of my favorites from The Hive’s current collection that are truly worth an investment:
