street style: uyen tang

Ninety percent of the time I have a heavy hand in the street style shoots, but every now and then one takes place without my involvement. This was one of them. Emma took care of the photos, and Rosana styled our guest, Uyen. I did meet Uyen briefly–and yes, she is even more stunning in person–but really I did not know much about her or what she does until I sat down to pull this post together. But let me put it this way: I am so impressed.

She is the founder of STYLECABLE, an e-commerce site that features independent designers exclusively. She launched the website just one year ago and it has already taken off. Now, Uyen finds herself working with local designers, photographers and stylists in the DMV and considers herself lucky to be doing so.

As for her own style? “I dress for comfort and ease. When I feel good, I’m projecting confidence and my best self. To me that’s the point of style and fashion: to create an image that reflects who you are at that moment.” Her style changes depending on what her day presents. Running errands, she may opt for skinny jeans and a t-shirt with layered jewelry to bring it all to life. A presentation on business analytics will likely find her in a dress and blazer. Across the board, however, she gravitates toward pieces that are minimalist in design with a little bit of an edge.

We learned of Uyen and her impressive endeavor when Rosana of DC Style Factory suggested her for a street style feature. The two have become friends since they first met, and often partner together on special projects and events. “When I first met Rosana, I was impressed by her great energy and her warmth and kindness. Her team is so fun. Above all, they’re smart women with a great sense of style. They make fashion accessible and never intimidating.”
