Street Style: Meg Lombardo

We love Stylebook because we get to post content that helps you look and feel your best, from the latest and greatest in our boutique, to what we love about Alexandria, and even some of our own personal stories, so we thought it would be fun to add a new voice to the Kiskadee mix. Meet Meg Lombardo. After many years at an international consulting firm working in Information Technology, about three years ago Meg decided to open a small consulting business, and now she’s part of the Kiskadee team!

Meg can be called a little bit rock and roll. She may have originated from a small town in Pennsylvania but she loves the sophistication surrounding Alexandria and the metropolitan area.  A voracious reader, you can find her and her husband sipping champagne and enjoying each other’s company at quaint cafes throughout the city.  Here she is to introduce herself.

Meg is wearing a top by Nicole Miller Atelier, available at Kiskadee.

My love of fashion, appreciation for my community, and admiration for other woman-owned small businesses led me to Stylebook. Small business runs in my blood. My dad owned and operated a dairy in Pennsylvania for over 40 years, where I started learning the ropes of running a business at a young age (while developing a very discerning palate for ice cream!).  I also learned how much of a direct impact small businesses can have on communities, and making a direct impact has always been important to me — both in my community and in my career — which has led to my membership in the Campagna Center’s Junior Friends organization as well as Women in Technology.

Over the last year I’ve also begun to explore my love of style and fashion and have taken several continuing education courses at Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. Additionally, spending significant time on the West Coast has given me insight and knowledge into the design and fashion culture in Southern California and the growing fashion community in Los Angeles.

Once I found where small business meets style, I became an avid reader of the Stylebook and supporter of the Stylebook businesses.  Through Stylebook I’ve been introduced to numerous designers, purchased one-of-a-kind products, discovered a new aesthetician, began attending a new church, learned about new and different health trends, figured out a better way to accessorize several rooms in my home, and most of all laughed a lot and made some wonderful new friends. It’s pretty powerful that the content written on a local blog can have that kind of impact on members of the community.

I’m thrilled to be the latest contributor to Alexandria Stylebook, and I look forward providing content from a customer-based perspective that you find enjoyable and informative. I’m a big proponent of high/low styling and believe that quality accessories can significantly elevate almost any look. I’m also a believer in wearing what makes you feel good, not necessarily just what trends are in for the season. Take inspiration from where it feels right, and experiment within the bounds you’re willing to push, but always, always feel comfortable in your own skin because really, there is nothing more beautiful than confidence!

ABOUT YOU

How do you spend your time? Spending time with my husband and exploring new places together, hanging out with my cute niece Nora, travelling, working, shopping.
Neighborhood: Cameron Station
How long have you lived in Alexandria: Just about 15 years
What is your hometown? West Pittston, PA. A small town in Northeastern PA close to the Poconos.
What brought you to Alexandria? I went to school in D.C. and moved to Alexandria several years after graduation.
What would surprise people about you? I sang on the altar of Notre Dame.
Favorite cocktail: A glass of really good champagne.
Last book read or movie seen: I don’t really watch movies. The last book I read, The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*** was excellent. It’s a parody and both hysterical and practical. I’m currently reading Going Clear. It discusses the history of scientology and it’s pretty fascinating.
Guilty Pleasure:  Homemade ice cream from the dairy my dad founded, Blue Ribbon Dairy.
Phrase you overuse: Oh dear God
Facebook or Instagram? Recently, Instagram. I was a very late adopter, but the fashion scene on Instagram is incredible.
Latest binge-watch: I don’t watch a ton of TV, so I’ve actually never binge watched anything.
Bucket list travel destination: Italy
If you only could have one for the rest of your life: wine or coffee? Coffee. And the funny thing is that I drink decaffeinated so I don’t even get a caffeine kick from it.

FASHION

Define your style in three words or less: Black, streamlined, (a little bit of) rock
The go-to piece in your wardrobe: Black distressed crops, black leather crop moto jacket, high neutral pointy-toe pumps
Favorite trend ever: Animal print as an accent
Favorite current trend: Anything blush
Beauty product you can’t live without: Devachan curly hair products
Favorite fragrance: Chanel CoCo Mademoiselle and Jimmy Choo
Heels or flats? Definitely heels

HOME

Antiques, modern, or a mix? Modern, but I like different items mixed together that tell a story.
Last item bought for your home: I just bought new paint because we are painting our family room to make it a little brighter.
Next planned purchase: New beds for the master bedroom and guest room.
Favorite way to entertain: Cocktails at home and then out to dinner.
Clutter-free or well-lived in? Clutter-free. My husband read Marie Kondo’s The Art of Tidying Up and about two months ago “Kondo’ed” just about our entire home.
Wallpaper: yes, totally modern or no, so dated: Sure, though I would need some help selecting.

FITNESS

Your go-to work-out: A workout at Equinox in Tysons with Sam Lavin and SoulCycle
Most fun way to exercise: Sam and Soul
Group exercise or solo: Group, for the motivation.
Fitness goal: To finally be able to do a handstand (I’ve been working on it for a long time but have a way to still go.)
Haven’t yet, but might be willing to try with coaching / encouragement: Yoga.
Proudest fitness achievement: I’ve run a half marathon, but the handstand will be an achievement totally out of my comfort zone.

ALEXANDRIA

Favorite spot in Alexandria: The quaint side streets in Old Town.
Last purchase in Alexandria: A dress from Kiskadee
Best coffee / happy hour / date night spot: For coffee, Cameron Café in Cameron Station. For date night, PX. Their cocktails are amazing and I love sitting at the bar watching the bartenders create them. Faccia Luna for casual date night dinners, as we are there more than I should admit. Their food is so good and their staff is so friendly.
Favorite charity: Community Lodgings, The Campagna Center
Favorite annual Alexandria event: The Campagna Center’s Christmas Walk, and specifically the home tours. It’s amazing the history that surrounds us in Alexandria.  Literally, if some of those walls could talk!

  1. I love her jeans! Where did she get them (and please don’t tell me she distressed them herself or I will have to make her my new best friend…)
