street style: betsy garcete

On Betsy: Green pants, black and white printed blouse, and checkered cardigan sweater, all from Kiskadee; dressy bootie from The Shoe Hive; clutch from Coco Blanca.

I have owned two businesses in my life – a boutique in DC and now, a styling business. If there’s one thing I have learned as a woman starting, running, and growing her own business is that it pays to be a girl’s girl. There is nothing more valuable and gratifying than joining forces with other women doing the same thing you are doing. Support for and from other businesswomen has been one of my greatest assets as a small business owner.

That’s how I met the talented and smart-as-a-whip Betsy Garcete, owner of Zophia, a local custom clothier, specializing in bespoke pencil skirts made to fit a woman’s specific measurements perfectly and precisely.

I connected with Betsy through social media networking and we clicked immediately. We have known each other as brand-spanking-new business owners and have been each other’s cheerleaders as both our businesses have flourished and grown.

Our team was absolutely thrilled to style Betsy for this Street Style shoot. Betsy’s personal style is always sexy, polished, feminine, and powerful. She rocks her pencil skirts like nobody’s business and mixes edgy, urban elements. For today’s shoot, though, we wanted to loosen things up a bit while still staying true to Betsy’s downtown edge. We mixed in some softer, comfier elements, like this great windowpane oversize sweater jacket from Kiskadee.
