A Spring Sweaters Story

The other day, I attended a wedding and it was 90 degrees outside the church where we took photos with the bride and groom for nearly an hour. Sweat makes for some great shots, let me tell you. My husband pointed out that just over a mere month ago there was snow on the ground. This is why I don’t really believe in spring as a season. Because as long as I’ve been alive it seems the weather simply can’t make up its mind between winter and summer until it finally decides on summer. Actually mild and pleasant spring days are rare if they show up at all. This volatility of the elements makes it hard to dress. What does one wear when not even the weather is predictable?

The answer is a spring sweater. Often short-sleeved and always lightweight, this sartorial solution is one all women should adopt. It’s stylish, uncomplicated, and suited for the “season.” I picked my four favorite spring sweaters and styled them on my friend Miranda to give you an idea how to wear them until summer rolls around for good.

Black and White Striped Sweater by Veronica Beard, $350

This ever-so-slightly distressed sweater is a personal favorite. Paired with slim black pants (also by Veronica Beard) and luxurious flats by Aquatalia, this look is ready for the office or a date!

Knit Pocket Tee by Current Elliott, $148

Much more casual, we styled this boxy sweater with cropped and flared denim by Mother and a seriously high but equally comfortable wedge by Dee Keller. Perfect for a mom on the go!

Linen Swing V Sweater by Inhabit, $322

The lightest weight of the bunch, the shape of this swing sweater is also the most forgiving. Designed to flatter any figure, it works with just about any bottom in your closet. Here, we styled it with casual cargos by NSF and our favorite new sneakers by Vince.

Fringed Sweater by Ulla Johnson, $518

Taking a turn to the bohemian, we know this fringed sweater with paillettes by Ulla Johnson isn’t for everyone. But when paired with of-the-moment suede sandals by Freda Salvador and linen shorts by Mother, we think it’s pretty swell.
