I sneezed this weekend. Do you know what that means? Time for a.) Zyrtec and b.) spring shopping! Spring season with my clients swung into high gear this month. Our strategy is to always start with a few seasonal staples that I know will be wardrobe workhorses. Then, we round out with on-trend “push” pieces that speak to that client’s personal style.
Here are my picks for casual must-haves this season:
1) White sneakers
Time to give your boots a break! White trainers with no socks (or no-show socks) are my shoe du jour this season. These Supergas from The Shoe Hive also fit the bill perfectly. They are easily paired with jeans or trousers. This season, though, mix it up by adding a sporty flair to a skirt or dress.
My other must-have is a lightweight anorak in khaki or other light, neutral color. This linen Michael Stars jacket is a great go-with-everything option.
2) Light blue jeans
Skinny or straight dark blue jeans are a closet essential because of their versatility (dress ‘em up and down with ease). Lately though, I find myself reaching more for my light blue denim in a baggier, more relaxed silhouette.
Be selective with the shoe and top you pair with your light baggy jeans. The look can easily go sloppy. The light shade and distress draws attention and adds volume. Balance your silhouette with a blouse in a light or bright color instead of a black or navy. This draws attention up. Avoid a too-baggy jacket or top.
For the shoe, opt for a strappy sandal or a pointy-toe flat to keep your look purposeful and polished.
As the weather warms, I am also looking for easier jewelry options like this horn pendant from Coco Blanca. It makes a statement, but is still ultra-versatile for everyday or a date night out.
3. Print, lightweight scarf.
Time to swap out those heavy blanket scarves for a lighter version. Kiskadee’s linen scarf in this on-trend melon shade is the perfect accent to any outfit – especially a chic white-on-white.
One of my favorite ways to wear a scarf is The Waterfall. Pull one end of scarf longer than the other. Loop the longer end around your neck once. Grab the upper corner of that longer end of the scarf so that it fans out. Pull that corner around to the back of your neck and tuck into the back. The front should fan out over your chest in a kerchief “V” shape. Adjust the shorter end of the scarf underneath so it is hidden. Pull the front to cowl it a bit. Voilà – waterfall!
