Shopping with Our Expecting Mamas

This time last year, we were ramping up and stocking up for the big Coronavirus Baby Boom that was predicted to result from quarantine life, but it turns out, there was more of a Baby Bust with less babies being born in the U.S. Luckily, it never felt like a bust for us. Baby gifts kept us busy and actually played a big part in keeping our business alive during the shutdown (thank you for supporting us!!). Because so many of our customers couldn’t visit the new babies in their lives, we sent the sweetest presents. We always love to help pick out the perfect gift, and we are happy to wrap, write a note, and ship if needed.  Easy, one-stop-shopping is the name of the game.

Now that life is somewhat returning to a new normal, we are so happy to see our pregnant mamas and their adorable bumps in the store. I have my ideas and recommendations on what to give an expecting mother, but I thought it would be fun to let a few of our pregnant moms pick out what they would put on their wishlist.

Absolutely glowing, Stephanie Parkes, a favorite local influencer who always looks stunning, is due this month with her first, and I already know we are going to have so much fun dressing her sweet little William “Will” David when he arrives. Stephanie has an amazing classic taste, and you can tell she appreciates the details. Her husband is in the aerospace field, and we immediately found some planes that were a must for Will’s collection. Her nursery has a nautical theme, so an adorable little sailor suit bubble for next summer and anything with a sailboat made the wishlist. The list wouldn’t be complete without a nod to her beloved Golden Retriever, Tanner. Monday’s Child loves all dogs, but we might be a bit Golden biased. A sweet blue puppy footie will get lots of use in the first few weeks.

Fellow small business owner and all-around superstar with her magnetic personality and nonstop energy, our community’s love for Barre3 owner, Meredith Patel, was especially evident last year when we got call after call after call for gifts for her showers. There were at least four that I was aware of. In the early pandemic days, I used to joke that gifts for baby Rhodes alone kept our business afloat (kind of joking, but kind of not). When we helped with her gender reveal for baby #2 a few weeks ago, we were over the moon to find out she’s got a little girl on the way! Meredith came in for her picks and right away said she wants “zippers and magnets” – spoken like a true mom. Having kids 18 months apart, the ease of easy clothing is key. She loves super soft pima cotton in fun, happy patterns. She also couldn’t resist an adorable seersucker watermelon bubble for next summer. We’ve lured Meredith over to the classic and preppy side, and now there’s no turning back!

Our amazing monogrammer, Amanda Dattaro, is mom to Madison (six) and Colin (four) and pregnant with a baby boy, Jack, who is due later in June. I’m in awe of Amanda every day – she’ll run 10 miles while pregnant, work her full-time job in the U.S. Navy, take care of her kids and knock out 20 monograms for me in a night. I love her. So much. Given it’s her third, she has lots of clothes to pass down to the new baby but wants to make sure that he has some special things with his name on them. This little sailboat footie paired with his monogrammed sunhat couldn’t be cuter!! And we love the custom monogram she made to go with the golf footie. I don’t know where she finds the time, but she is always willing to help us customize pieces in so many fun ways! We can’t wait to match Jack with his siblings.

Baby gifts bring us so much joy. We really love helping figure out the perfect present.

Call, text us, or reach out on Instagram and we’ll send suggestions!

Born and raised in Alexandria and married to a native Alexandrian as well! We love living in Old Town – just a few blocks from the store – with our three little boys and golden retriever Rumpelstiltzkin. Although my first job and real love was retail (the Lilly Pad where Mint Condition is now), I worked in Public Affairs and PR prior to buying the shop, which has really been a dream come true for me. I feel so grateful to work with our customers to find the perfect outfit for their special childhood moments. When I’m not at the store you can probably find me at an Old Town park chasing the boys or on my yoga mat.

A classic children’s boutique in Old Town, Alexandria for 40 years, we carry special occasion and play clothes for sizes newborn to 12. Located in the historic Crilley Warehouse just two blocks from the water, Monday’s Child is your go-to shop for baby gifts, baptism gowns, holiday dresses and outfits, boy’s blazers and ties, First Communion, shoes, books, toys and much more.
