For the past two weeks, I have been listening to my friends, family, and guests cry, lament, and worry about their kids and the start of our strange school year. I have been feeling extraordinarily helpless as I don’t have children of my own and have no idea what I’m talking about or even what opinion to give. You know how much I love to share my opinion, so I found something I actually could weigh in on; Teachers are awesome, and their work is often so undervalued. Under the circumstances, there isn’t much that I can do, but I can help say “thank you” with a gesture of love — a biscuit.
With your help, Stomping Ground would like to honor local teachers who have dedicated their services to the community and students of Alexandria now during unprecedented times, and the “before time.” Each week from September 21 – November 1, we will select one teacher to receive a hot biscuit sandwich and coffee delivery as a gesture of thanks from all of us.
We are now accepting nominations and will select a winner each Friday to receive their delivery the following week. A small token, but a small pleasure for local teachers as they navigate uncharted waters with as much grace as we can ask.
For more information and to nominate your favorite Alexandria teacher, visit www.stompdelray.com/home and fill out the form.
If you wander down Del Ray’s, “The Avenue,” you won’t miss the farm-red building with a rustic fence bordering the patio. Stomping Ground opened two years ago and quickly became popular for its made-from-scratch biscuits and its neighborhood vibe. On weekends, excited guests line up before Stomping Ground opens hoping to be the first to get a just-out-of-the-oven biscuit or a fresh salad. Stomping Ground is mostly known for its fast casual breakfast and lunch but on Thursdays and Fridays they provide a full dinner service after 5:00pm. All meals are built from local, seasonal food that is organic whenever possible.
