Save the Date! Inaugural Walk to Bust Cancer October 16
Can you believe it’s already almost fall? Time for pumpkin spice lattes, cozy cardigans, colorful falling leaves, and the inaugural Walk to Bust Cancer! Bring your whole family out to Fort Hunt Park on Sunday, October 16th for a day of fellowship, fun activities for kids, music by local band Route 66, dancing and parkour demonstrations, and more.
The Walk to Bust Cancer will be hosted by the National Breast Center Foundation in order to bring together everyone interested in supporting efforts to end breast cancer — which, tragically, is an ever-growing population due to the fact that our area has one of the highest rates of breast cancer and one of the highest incidences of late-stage breast cancer in the nation.
The National Breast Center Foundation works to remove barriers preventing women from getting proper screening, diagnoses, and education about breast cancer and aims to improve the availability of and quality of care for breast cancer. It is a crucial force working to address a problem that impacts Alexandrians on a large scale.
Dr. David Weintritt, Founder of the National Breast Center and Foundation, said, “We are very excited to bring a walk back to the Alexandria community. We look forward to bringing together breast cancer survivors, families, medical professionals, and everyone interested in supporting an effort to end this dreaded disease.”
Please consider joining us on this walk! Our fabulous team member Joanne Sawczuk is on the committee and has been working hard alongside several Alexandria women, all of whom have been touched in one way or another by breast cancer, to make this a great event for everyone. It is sure to be a fun day, but also one that addresses an important cause by building community and raising money.
Even if you can’t stop by, you can still help by sponsoring the event! Sponsorship provides local women with access to treatments they might not otherwise receive, as well as critical education, research, and technology that impact the way breast cancer is treated.
